Istanbul Market on Gammon Road in Madison is a great place to explore foods from different parts of the world, especially the Middle East, Türkiye, and the Balkans. The market has a wide variety of products including fresh breads, olives, olive oil, rice, dried fruits, dates, cookies, crackers, spices, cheeses, and many other international products that are not easy to find in regular grocery stores.
The prepared food section is also very good. You can find delicious döner kebab, shish kebab, börek, and other freshly prepared foods with authentic flavors. The atmosphere feels welcoming and the store offers many traditional products that remind people of home.
If you are in Madison and enjoy international cuisine, Istanbul Market is definitely worth visiting.

As a Turk, I was so excited to find a Turkish store to buy some Turkish products, but none of the products were actually Turkish. Such a waste of time driving all the way down there. Also, the store could be a bit more organized and cleaner.
Good place for delicious food, a must visit for lunch, if you haven't tried the Adana Kebab you are missing out. Some amazing collection of Turkish/Italian groceries. Highly recommend trying out if you are in the area!
The only way to describe this place is to let you take the journey with me from my first visit.
Saw this place on a commercial, and I’ve been looking to branch my tastebuds out, so to the market I went. Nice, small market with tons of food from overseas. But I was instantly lost, because I wasn’t sure where the cafe was. After a quick glance you can see a nice meat cooler in the distance. Not that it was hard to find, but it took a minute. There were about 4 men behind the counter and I walked up like a teenager at the doctors office, unsure of what to say or order. I was immediately greeted and presented with the a nice visual menu as well as other items not listed, but could be found by scanning the menu barcode. After placing my order, the gentlemen pointed to the (most delicious) Turkish tea/chai, and offered me to have a cup and sit in the cafe area while I wait. And just around the isle sure stood a nice table set and chairs to relax and wait for your food. I decided to wander aimlessly around the market. I didn’t really know many of the foods they sold, but opened my mind to the dishes I could try to make with everything they sold. Which in that instance, a man (one of the 4 from behind the counter) saw me looking at the grains and rices they sold. He began to explain what some were used for and recommended a great dish to create. Like he read my mind and erased it if it’s ignorance. I instantly felt like I was shopping on the market streets socializing with everyone in town. Now ready for my food I venture back to now be offered very delicious olives they use on some dishes. Like a family member sneaking you food before it’s ready I was overjoyed and honestly very very comfortable now. We chatted with another employee as we headed to the front to pay…..where we were again offered sparkling water (tastes like apple juice) on the way out. I can say the food was a 9/10 but the atmosphere and service was a 20/10. I would go back just to hang out. They are now, family. And that’s how family should be treated. Thanks guys!!!!
I don't know anything about Turkish cuisine, but went in on a whim just to see what they had. I did end up getting some dates and a bottle of pomegranate syrup though. The store is very crowded: the aisles are very narrow and there was a random empty shelving unit blocking access to the freezers. They have a good variety of spices and dried fruits. They also carry lots of packaged items, some are from the Middle East and North Africa as well. Most of the products do not have price tags or prices posted on the shelves so it's hard to tell if the prices are reasonable. There's a small lunch counter in back but I didn't notice a menu; maybe I just missed it because I wasn't going to buy any prepared food. There was at least one table up front but it seemed like the people who ordered food got it for takeout. The older man at the front counter was friendly when I checked out but none of the staff had greeted me when I came in or asked if they could help me find anything which surprised me.
